Suicide is a topic that too often lingers in silence, tightly wrapped in stigma and misunderstanding. Yet, it is a reality that touches countless lives worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, more than 700,000 people die by suicide every year—one every 40 seconds. Each of these lives lost is a person with hopes, dreams, loved ones, and a unique story. The ripples of grief extend far beyond families and friends, affecting entire communities.
For years, suicide has been shrouded in shame, often discussed only in hushed tones—if at all. Awareness is the antidote to stigma. By talking openly about suicide, we signal to those who are struggling that their feelings are valid and that support exists.

The Baton of Hope tour is doing just such a thing. The tour started on the 1st September in Blackpool and is travelling the country raising awareness, sharing stories, supporting those that have lost loved ones and starting conversations about suicide and how everyone can help prevent it.
Raising awareness about suicide is not just about prevention—it’s about cultivating hope, compassion, and understanding. By recognising the warning signs, dispelling harmful myths, and supporting those in need, we can help save lives and build a kinder, more resilient world. Let us move forward together, shining a light on the darkness and reminding one another that, in every moment, there is hope.

I really hope the baton relay helps to bring awareness to this sad situation for so many devastated families, friends and communities.
