From all of us at EMF, thinking of you all

We all know that Christmas is a varied time of year.  Some are thrilled, have their decorations up about 6 weeks beforehand and are organised, presents wrapped, cake ready to iced etc etc, and there are those that find it all a bit of struggle.  The extra expectations, the expense, those that gleefully brag “ohh I have already done all mine” when they ask if you are ready for the big day?!  Then there is yet another group that are dreading it.  This could be their first year without their partner, son, father, mother, daughter.  It is a time of year that floods us with images of happy families, reconciliations, family gatherings and wonderful get togethers but the reality is that for many of us it is a time of loneliness, regret, sadness and isolation.

A lot of the services that people come to rely on are parred down over the Christmas period, people who are usually available for coffee and chats are busy getting ready for their own Christmas and things all seem out of routine.

Isolation is the big thing this time of year so if you know someone that is alone this Christmas,  young, old, neighbour, friend or colleague, reach out, say hi.  The importance of that brief connection can make the difference to someone’s mood and day.    I don’t know if you have seen the social media post by Simon Sinek about being able to give 8 minutes, if you haven’t , search for it, it is a thought-provoking concept.  So, this Christmas, give someone 8 minutes. It may just be the best thing that has happened to them that day.

Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and a prosperous, healthy New Year.
