After reading the article Moral Injury and Suicidality Among Combat-Wounded Veterans: The Moderating Effects of Social Connectedness and Self-Compassion https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7224359/#ABS1 , Sarah Miller was compelled to write a poem. Sarah is a continued advocate and supporter of EMF so we are pleased to share it here.
Thank you For Your Service
Please do not condemn those that fight/fought for us each day,
Obedience above all else, they do not have a say.
They strive to do their very best, they answer to the call,
Their actions not entirely their own, they're just doing their job after all.
They look to those above them to guide them on their path,
Compliance is a requisite so as not to provoke their wrath.
An order is an order, and that is what they're told,
No matter their opinion or what beliefs they hold.
They sacrifice so much for us, more than anyone will know,
These are the people we should be proud of! they are all a true Hero!!
So please honour and respect them, it matters that you do,
For never have so many owed so much to so few!!
