We are now moving into Firework season and unlike years gone by when you would have one day with local bonfire and public fireworks display, fireworks are now readily available for individuals and there seems to be no time frame with organised displays and individuals setting them off for about 2 weeks.
Whilst they do look pretty and ohhhs and ahhhs can be heard around the country not everyone appreciates them. We hear constantly about how they are distressing for animals but they can be equally so for Armed Forces personnel both serving and veterans.
There are a few things you can do that may help; listening to music through headphones or earbuds, if possible go away (though with it being a 2 week event these days that could be difficult), practice coping techniques sitting with your back against a wall. Above all, recognise your reactions and don’t feel ashamed of them. Reach out to people in your support system who can help you through it.
