As we get ready to start the New Year and the endless rounds of “What are your New Year Resolutions” everyone thinks about the big changes they are going to make. Lose weight, give up smoking, save money, go out with friends more etc. These are all great, if you stick to them and achieve them you should be really proud of yourself.
A simple start is to de-clutter, whilst I don’t suggest you tackle the loft on 2nd January it can be a small thing, go through the Christmas decorations before you put them in that loft. Tatty tinsel or baubles that no longer match the colour scheme can be sorted. Decorations the children made but no longer go on the tree can be saved separately. Small things, but a start.
Take it slow, one cupboard, one drawer, one shelf at a time or if you have free time, one room at a time. Don’t try and tackle to much in one go or you could feel overwhelmed.
The practice of Feng Shui is all about energies that flow through your space, if your space is cluttered and disorganized energies are not going to flow, they will clog up and affect the harmony in your space.
The same can be said for our minds, being overwhelmed with thoughts flitting from one idea to another can create a mental turmoil. Meditation, yoga, Tai Chi are all good ways to help clear your mind and focus on one thing at a time. A lot of people find running or exercising a way to help clear their minds, this also has the side benefit of helping lose weight and get fitter (2 resolutions for the price of one!)
There is a lot of help online with guides to decluttering your space, your mind and your life. It isn’t going to happen immediately but by taking the first step you are on your way to a better flow of energy and a calmer mind.
