This amazing balloon installation is the creation of MIND charity at Westfield Shopping Centre in London. Each of the 6,929 balloons represents a young life cut short due to suicide. It is hoped that this stunning but poignant display will not only give a visual representation and following on many charities #StartTheConversation and World Suicide Prevention Day’s #ChangeTheNarrative will also get people talking about suicide more openly.
One of the main stumbling blocks is that people don’t know how to ask, “Are you ok?” and more importantly how to listen to the answer. There are several free courses available online and many local councils have free training available along with their own Suicide Prevention campaigns.
The installation at the Westfield is only there until the 11th September but let us hope it sparks a change in the narrative surrounding suicide.
