Over the months of September & October the Baton of Hope is working its way across the country bringing the focus on suicide and it’s prevention. Their mission: We believe that deaths by suicide are preventable, right up until the point of action; and that all of society has a duty of care. Through campaigning, public education and awareness, a series of pledges and lobbying, we will create change. By working with partners, fellow charities and communities we will work tirelessly to make suicide prevention a top priority. We will give hope and save lives.
This endeavour is to bring to the public’s attention the very real problem of suicide. Statistics show that deaths to suicide are the highest they have been since 1999, with over 6,000 last year.
Unfortunately suicide is still talked about in hushed whispers and the aim of Baton of Hope is to bring this out of the shadows, talk, educate and raise awareness of how it can be prevented.
Whilst this is not a predominantly veteran mission we strongly believe that any positive action toward suicide prevention is, in necessity, supported by all suicide prevention/awareness charities and together we can all make a difference.
Please check out their social media accounts or website and see if there is an event happening near you that you can go to, support their mission, spread the EMF word or just cheer the baton bearers along.
